Prepare a route for another attempt
Place a bed and a chest with spare food, blocks and weapons at the stronghold portal. Filling the frame may take up to 12 eyes of ender; some may already be installed. Each eye you insert is consumed. Reference: Minecraft: Ender Dragon.
Our suggested loadout is enchanted armor and weapons in good condition, a bow, 64 arrows, 2 stacks of blocks, a water bucket and cooked food. Slow Falling helps with being thrown into the air, but cannot save you from the void. Beds explode in the End: do not place one there to sleep.
Platform and crystals
After crossing, first look where the island is: the starting obsidian platform may be outside. Build a walkway with a crouch and leave a supply of blocks for returning for things.
Shoot the exposed crystals from the ground and confirm the explosion of each one. At a closed grille, first open the shooting line; Do not hit the crystal closely without cover. Leave water under the column for descent and possible fall, and not just a ladder up.

Dragon in the air and at the portal
While flying, use your bow and move away from the breath cloud. When landing at the central portal, arrows do not solve the problem: approach the head with a sword, avoiding the wings and exiting into the void. In Java, consider attack recovery.
Don't look endermen in the eye. The water helps create a small retreat zone for them. After victory, save the loot through the central exit, and leave the outer islands and elytra for a separate expedition.
