Finding and mining ancient debris in the Nether

Look for ancient debris in the Nether rock near Y=15 and mine with a diamond or netherite pickaxe. Fortune does not increase the yield: one ingot still requires four fragments.

Reach the working level

Write down the coordinates of the portal and make a separate staircase to Y=15. This is a guide to the most advantageous layer, and not a guarantee of the core. Water in Nether does not serve as a common extinguishing agent; You need non-combustible blocks and preferably fire resistance. Reference: Minecraft: netherite scrap.

Find a section of netzerk: basalt deltas are more inconvenient for manual excavation. Keep blocks close to your pickaxe to block the emerging lava flow without switching across the entire hotbar.

A small tunnel network you can navigate

Our plan: mainline 1×2 and three signed branches of 30 blocks. Between parallel branches, leave 3 blocks untouched. Mark the direction of the portal with the same side of the torches. These numbers set the volume of one foray and do not promise loot.

When found, open the adjacent rock and check the continuation of the vein. Don't stand on the last block above the cavity. The debris is resistant to explosions, but the surrounding nezerak and your equipment are not.

The full cost of the template and blacksmithing upgrade is listed here: Upgrading diamond equipment to netherite.

Smelting and the limits of explosive mining

One fragment is melted into one scrap. Four scrap and four gold ingots give one netherite ingot; I also need an upgrade template. Do not count two blocks found into two completed improvements.

Beds explode when trying to sleep in Nether, TNT also opens up lava. Fire resistance protects against fire, but not against the explosion itself. Master these methods separately at the stand; This is a manual extraction route with no promise of a safe distance for any cavity.

Covering the first frame and returning is described here: Your first Nether trip: secure a portal and find your way home.

Frequently asked questions

Will an iron pickaxe work?

No, the block must be mined using diamond or netherite.

Will Fortune III produce more debris?

No, it does not increase their number.

Will I find a vein for 30 blocks?

Not necessarily. The length of the branch limits the foray, and does not determine random generation.
