From inventory to crafting table

In the personal grid 2×2 one log turns into 4 planks. Fill four cells with boards and get a crafting table. Place it and open it: the grid will become 3×3, with recipes like a pickaxe and a furnace available in it.

Crafting does not start by waiting. The item must be picked up at the exit; then the materials are consumed. So first take one result and check its title. Bulk creation with Shift is only useful when you are sure of the selected option.

Recipe book: check the filter

Open the book with the icon next to the grid. Try filtering available recipes if the list is too long. When the filter is turned off, recipes for which there are not yet enough materials are also visible. Click the desired option, see the layout and quantity at the output.

Some recipes allow for different types of wood, others require a specific item or station. You need boards, not logs, and a crafting table if the shape takes 3×3. Ore smelting will not appear in the crafting grid: it requires a furnace.

Example: wood needed for 32 stairs

One wood steps recipe uses 6 planks and produces 4 steps. On 32 steps you need 8 repetitions: 48 boards, that is, 12 logs when 4 boards come out of the log. crafting table and remaining items are not included in this calculation.

The desired resultReplaysConsumption
4 steps16 boards
32 steps848 boards = 12 logs
36 steps with a margin954 boards; you will need 14 logs with the rest of 2 boards

First, calculate the lengths of the slopes, then order a batch of steps. Roof plan.

If the result does not appear

Remove the excess item from the empty cell according to the recipe, check the shape and type of material. Make sure the crafting table is open and not your personal inventory. On the server, recipes can be changed by a datapack or a plugin; comparison in a normal single world of the same version separates the server rule from the layout error.

For a large construction project, make a list of ready-made blocks, then convert it into raw materials, taking into account batches. After the first test module, check the consumption: the wrong shape of the roof doubles the losses more than a couple of extra boards.

Collect the next stage materials separately from the general warehouse. Layout and supplies.

Frequently asked questions

Why is there a recipe, but cannot be created?

Check the missing materials, the size of the working grid and the selected recipe option.

Does Shift only create one item?

It usually creates an available batch of the result; check one craft first.

Why is the calculation not divided entirely?

Round up the number of repetitions: the recipe produces a whole batch, not a fractional item.
